My shred-hot tip for faster compost

Is there any way to speed up my leaf mould pile into compost? – David, Wimbledon, London DAVID: You should shred thick leaves like sycamore and horse chestnut as well as any evergreen leaves that you use. Make sure you keep the pile moist and remember the larger the pile, the more it heats up and the faster it breaks down the material. However, you’ll probably need up to two years to make good leaf mould.
