Jack back to basics
SUNDERLAND misfit Jack Rodwell is going back to the future in a bid to rescue his career.
The former Manchester City, Everton and England midfielder, 26, is being encouraged by boss Simon Grayson to reinvent himself as a centre-back.
Rodwell recently played in defence at Under-23 level against Doncaster and Hertha Berlin.
Grayson said: “It’s a decision we both took. Before going into the first team at Everton, he played centre-back and also through the age groups with England.
“He felt that might be his best position, because his body perhaps can’t take the demands of playing in midfield anymore.”
