Jones on up and up

PHIL JONES is in line for a bumper new contract at Manchester United.

The deal is set to make the 25-year-old one of the highest paid defenders in the Premier League.

Jones has just 20 months left on his current deal and he has established himself as part of Jose Mourinho’s first-choice pairing at centre-half alongside Eric Bailly.

Talks are at an early stage but it is anticipated Jones could be looking at around £150,000 a week.

Mourinho is pleased with how the player reacted to injuries last season to come back this summer in the best shape of his United career.

It is hoped a deal can be reached by Christmas.
