Mugabe WHO ambassador role concern
THE World Health Organization has sparked controversy by making President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe its “goodwill ambassador”.
Us-based campaign group Human Rights Watch described the decision as “an embarrassment” given the leader’s record on human rights.
WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised Zimbabwe for its tackling of non-communicable diseases.
But critics slammed its health system as a failure.
They claim the president and senior ministers go abroad for care, staff are often unpaid and medicines are in short supply.
