225 nabbed for speeding in 24 hours

GARDAI were cracking down on speeding drivers this weekend as part of National Slow Down Day.

The 24-hour operation ended at 7am on Saturday and 225 motorists across the country were caught going too fast.

The worst offender was in Listellian, Letterkenn­y, Co Donegal, where a car was caught doing 177kmh in a 100kmh zone.

The next was in Ballisodar­e, Co Sligo, where a driver was doing 145kmh in a 100kmh zone.

In total, 140,223 vehicles had their speed checked.

Chief Supt Finbarr Murphy said: “I would like to thank those road users who drive safely.”
