Talk TV Not so much hired or fired..apprentice is just looking tired

Elizabeth is cringe

Apprentice candidates bungle their way through the latest mission bungling her way through every task and refusing to allow catty remarks from the other women bow her spirit. In episode two she measured every nook and cranny of a hotel room – including the door frame and windows – yet the bespoke furniture didn’t fit when it arrived. Nottingham-based Elizabeth’s enthusiasm knows no bounds and she describes herself in her show biog as a “slightly bonkers country girl”.

She thinks her “killer business instincts” mean she’s good at making snap decisions, she says what she thinks and shoots from the hip.

She went on: “My big feet are good for two things; getting me into trouble as they’re as big as my mouth and I constantly get them stuck in it, but... they also kick butt.”

Aptly put. If she fails to win The Apprentice she could well have a future in comedy television, perhaps alongside Miranda Hart…

The show has its share of cocky young upstarts too – including Brummie James White, 26 and Essex wide boy Ross Fretten, 29. Blonde PR Willmott-brown and marketing manager Jade English, 25, is also one to watch if she can steer clear of the Mean Girls clique set on getting their claws into the competition.

The BBC format has spawned countless spin-offs, including Junior Apprentice, but is perhaps best known for enticing Donald Trump to front the US version before beating a path to the White House.

Perhaps it’s time for the Irish version to make a comeback – with Bertie Ahern replacing Ben Dunne. “You’re eh, em, eh, fired, ye eejit.”

The Apprentice is on BBC One on Wednesday at 9pm.
