I’m happy to pass Crown on to Olivia

Star Claire’s delight over successor

- BY JAMES DESBOROUGH

THE Crown star Claire Foy has given her royal seal of approval to Olivia Colman as she prepares to succeed her on the hit show.

Broadchurch and Peep Show actress Olivia, 43, is to play Elizabeth II in the third and fourth series as the monarch moves into her forties.

Claire said: “She’ll be fantastic, she’s an extraordinary actress. She’ll completely reinvent it and make it her own.”

The Netflix series, which has picked up a host of awards, returns for its second series in December – with Claire, 33, still on the throne. Fans will have to wait a year for their first sightings of Olivia. Golden Globe winner Claire, who was sworn to secrecy, added: “I’m glad I can now talk about it. I want to shout it from the rooftops – she’s amazing.” Claire, who won the Britannia British Artist of the Year Award in Los Angeles on Friday, says Olivia has already called to chat about the role. She said: “I can’t wait to see her in it.” Accepting her award Claire grinned: “Not a day goes by that I don’t pinch myself that I’m involved in this business. It’s magical.” scoops@ sundaymirror.
