Warhol soup tin sells for a piping €2.3k
AN empty Campbell’s tomato soup tin signed by artist Andy Warhol has sold for €2,300.
Warhol was heralded as a founder of pop art with his 1962 work, Campbell’s Soup Cans – made up of 32 canvases, each showing a different flavour.
The artist, who died in 1987 aged 58, had gone on to use the brand’s soup tins in a range of other works.
The can, sold at International Autograph Auctions in Nottingham, was signed on a white part of the label.
Auctioneer Richard Davie said: “It’s a rare and desirable example.”
But he cautioned wouldbe buyers: “The lid and contents are missing.”
