Gosden’s Breeders warning

- DAVID YATES

JOHN GOSDEN yesterday warned Europe’s Breeders’ Cup raiding party to “be on your mettle” at Del Mar next weekend. The California track stages the two-day fixture, which begins on Friday, for the first time. And Gosden (above), who began his training career in the Golden State in 1979 before returning to Britain 10 years later, claimed Del Mar’s tight layout and short straight could catch the visitors out. “You’ve got to be on your mettle,” said Gosden, who saddles Juliet Capulet in the Juvenile Fillies’ Turf. “If you’re slow out of the gate, you’ll pay the price.” WINX became the second horse in history to win Australia’s Cox Plate three times when gaining her 22nd straight victory at Moonee Valley in the early hours of yesterday morning. JAMES TATE takes Champagne Stakes runner-up Hey Gaman to France today for the Group One Criterium International at Saintcloud.
