I escaped the clutches of sex predator
NEWSTALK presenter Dr Ciara Kelly has told how she escaped the clutches of a media predator referred to as the ‘Irish Weinstein’.
The radio host lifted the lid on her sinister experience in a series of tweets and said the prominent media figure had harassed countless women.
Dr Ciara, who presents Lunchtime Live, also said she was recently approached by a woman who revealed the same man raped her 40 years ago.
Outlining the conversation, she added the woman, who was visibly distressed, told her: “I can still smell him on me.”
Former TV medic Ciara also revealed how the pervert made unwanted advances to her and tried to coerce her into meeting him privately.
She said: “I’ve met him twice, but both times in a group setting. He messaged me immediately after the first meeting by Twitter DM. He was very complimentary – ‘You are very talented, we must meet for coffee’ he said.
“I declined, something about him made me uneasy. I was polite, though. I was friendly. Many, many messages came, I declined other invitations.
“I met him again, we were at [the] same event. I spoke to him briefly but didn’t engage – I was with friends.
“More messages came – ‘Who do you think you are? You’re becoming a national joke’ late at night followed by, ‘Please forgive me I don’t know what came over me’ the following morning.”
More than 50 women have accused US movie boss Harvey Weinstein of a range of sex assault allegations. There were several replies to Dr Kelly’s explosive series of tweets with some calling on her to name the man.
She said she did not know him very well but admitted the harassment went on “for months”.
Dr Ciara added: “I spoke to friends, they all had stories they’d heard, ‘Be careful he’s violent – he beat his wife’.
“‘He had a car back in the day, he offered girls lifts home – the passenger door handle was broken they couldn’t get out. I have a friend he did the same to, he plagued her’. “The messages, bizarre in their over familiarity, stopped eventually and I half forgot. “Then this woman approached me. ‘I can still smell him on me – there were lots of us,’ she said. “And I believed her. I’ve thought a lot about her and am shaking writing these tweets but I believe that woman. “And I believe he beat his wife and had a car he gave lifts in so I’m putting this out there.” The ex-gp from Greystones later encouraged others targeted by the media figure to come forward. She tweeted: “If you think you know who I’m talking about and if you have been affected please contact me and let’s try to right this.” news@irishmirror.ie
