Sweetest Thing for U2 at MTV awards
BONO took Pride of place at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night as U2 picked up the Global Icon gong.
The Irish rockers appeared as One as they performed in London’s Trafalgar Square.
It came after the frontman and Adam Clayton collected two prizes at the 40 Music Awards in Madrid on Friday night.
Bono was also in the news this week over tax avoidance revelations in the Paradise Papers. Last night guitarist The Edge leapt to his pal’s defence when he told the Irish Sunday Mirror the country needs an overhaul of its tax system. He said: “It think it’s a complicated thing. We are wealthy people and you could say that comes with the territory. “We do understand why people are angry with the system as it is. “It is not straightforward like one nation can do it on their own. Unfortunately there were a lot of inaccuracies reported initially and at this point here lawyers are involved. We will see how that pans out.”
