Lymphedema is a long-term, chronic condition where abnormal levels of fat cells build up in the legs, thighs and buttocks.

I had it for 30 years and it got worse when I developed arthritis. I needed new hips and a new left knee but thought surgery was not an option because my limbs were so large. Trevor Lawrence, an orthopaedic surgeon at Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, told me that it was possible.

Over the last 18 months I’ve had my hips replaced and kneecap done. The last op, three months ago, was gruelling but my mobility is much better and I couldn’t be happier. Gillian Sandever, 75, West Mids
