BIG SAM WOULD AXE DUO

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

DAVID UNSWORTH and Joe Royle are facing the axe if Sam Allardyce takes control at Everton.

The pair (above) have assumed caretaker roles following Ronald Koeman’s exit.

Allardyce is lining up sacked Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare to be his assistant if he takes over.

That will free up a role for director of football Steve Walsh, who is likely to revert to the position he enjoyed at Leicester, where he observed from the bench.

Allardyce will appoint his own backroom staff and there is unlikely to be room for the Toffees legends.

That will hugely disappoint the Everton faithful, who, along with former owner Bill Kenwright, are keen for their own to succeed.

Unsworth did himself a power of good in the eyes of Kenwright and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri by taking tough decisions during the 3-2 victory over Watford.

He substituted Wayne Rooney and the fact he was brave enough to take tough decisions was not lost in the directors’ box.

However, it remains an uncertain situation, with support for Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone coming from Moshiri.

With Allardyce favoured by Walsh, the Argentinian by the owner and Unsworth by Kenwright and the fans, it seems confusion will only be ended by results in the next few weeks.
