HARRY: WE’RE CLOSING IN
IRELAND midfielder Harry Arter emerged battered and bruised from the Parksen Stadium last night but emphasised Tuesday’s must-win situation is perfect. Martin O’neill tasked the Bournemouth midfielder with shadowing Denmark’s talisman Christian Eriksen and that he kept him scoreless ensured it was satisfactory evening.
“Before the campaign, if we were offered a chance to win a one-off game against Denmark at home, we’d have bitten your hand off. Now we have to take it,” declared Arter after his 10th cap.
“I think away from home, a draw has got to be seen as a positive result.
“In an ideal world, you want to score an away goal, but to come over here and keep them at bay was a good effort.
“We dug in deep and saw them off pretty comfortably.
“The World Cup feels closer now than it did before the game.”
Denmark winger Pione Sisto vowed to atone for missing a sitter in the first half.
“I didn’t get a proper connection on the shot,” explained the Celta Vigo wideman.
“Maybe I’m leaning a little too much to the left and, unfortunately, I opened my right leg too much.
“This tie is very much alive.”
