place. Meath River Rescue chairman and co-ordinator Christopher Rennicks said: “We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. The poor dog was about 150ft down this well and paddling for dear life. “We dropped a ladder down and secured ropes and slings. “My son Jamie then descended and managed to get Rizzi on to a harness and bring her up on to land. “She was taken to the vets where she was unbelievably only treated for sore paws. “We have been to a few call-outs where we rescued animals but we’ve never had to save a dog from such a deep well before. It was a great result for all involved.” The dog owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, said she was “amazed and astonished” her pet had survived the ordeal. She added that apart from sore paws, Rizzi just needed a lot of rest. news@irishmirror.ie Christopher Rennicks Service personnel attach Rizzi to a winch A rescuer checks over Rizzi
