Tragic assault victim Luke had ‘immense potential’

- BY JOHN PATRICK KIERANS

TRAGIC assault victim Luke O’reilly had “immense potential”, his Funeral Mass heard yesterday. The 20-year-old died in hospital on Monday after being attacked in Tallaght, Dublin, on Halloween night. Fr Michael Hurley told the congregation at St Martin De Porres Church in Aylesbury that Luke’s untimely death should call on us to live each moment fully.

He said: “He carried immense potential, which may often have remained hidden from him.

“Luke’s early, sudden and untimely death makes us aware of how fragile we are.

“At the same time it makes us appreciate the beauty of life. It calls us to live each moment fully.

“And to do the best we can at each moment, and live with understanding and kindness of each other. The great tribute that each of us can pay to Luke is to follow our own dreams and fulfil our potential.

“May you always hear Luke’s voice and prayer for you. May you hear his love for you. May you hear the beauty and energy of his life inspiring you.

“Death doesn’t end his life. Death does not limit. Rather it opens out to the wonder of a new home.”
