Karl hails walking

The personal trainer to the stars returns to our tellies next month with the hit weightloss show and told how keeping the bulge at bay over Christmas is all about balance.

The 34-year old was on hand to give his fitness tips at the launch of the Laya Health Care App, a “personal trainer in your pocket”.

He revealed the golden rule is: “If it’s not in the house you won’t eat it.”

Karl told the Sunday Mirror: “If people are dropping in chocolates to you, boxes and tins of Roses and whatever else, don’t keep it in your house.

PROBLEM

“Enjoy a little bit of it but then get rid of them, drop it off to a neighbour or a colleague or if you’re in an apartment block, drop it downstairs with a little note on it saying, ‘Please take me’.

“Because if it’s in the house you’re going to eat it and this is the biggest problem of all. Watch what you’re surrounded with and make it as healthy as you possibly can.”

Processed foods are plentiful around Christmas. However, Karl advises to bake your own fare.

He added: “Have healthy substitutes there too, and if you get a little bit more time over Christmas why not bake some cookies? When you make it yourself they’re a lot healthier for you.”

Picking your parties wisely is also crucial in terms of not overdoing it on booze and party food.

Karl said: “Choose your priority parties, they are the ones you can have the big bites at and then behave yourself a little bit more for the other ones.”

Most of us end up eating rubbish after a big night out and continue our bad eating the next day, while Karl insisted we should be doing the opposite.

He added: “Before you go to bed after a lot of alcohol it’s a good idea to have a good Karl Henry pint of water to hydrate the body during the night.” The fitness guru believes getting the whole family involved can really help. He said: “You’ve got more time over Christmas so have a car-free day and use your feet. That’s an easy one to do, or have a couple of days in a row where every family member KARL said: “The most important meal after a big festive night out is your breakfast the next morning. If that’s, for instance, French toast or Cornflakes, the chances are you’ll be less healthy during the day.” The traditional dinner decides on a new activity. It could be hillwalking, mountain biking, surfing – the trick is to get everybody involved and pick something different. “Make exercise part of your Christmas; expose yourself as a family or a group of friends to some new activities.”
