Scheme may help to ease housing crisis
A VOLUNTARY resettlement scheme could be considered to help ease the country’s housing crisis, Leo Varadkar has said.
Such a project would see families moving from local authority homes in congested urban areas to houses in rural Ireland.
The Taoiseach added: “Obviously it would have to be voluntary and maybe part of the solution, but I don’t think it’s going to be a major part of it.”
A second housing conference involving local authorities is due to take place next month amid claims from campaigners the homelessness crisis in Ireland has worsened
This autumn there were 1,463 families accessing emergency accommodation.
