Plan to bring TV licensing charge down
A RADICAL shake-up of the TV licence system is being considered including a lower charge.
Communications Minister Denis Naughten said the current model is “unsustainable”.
The Independent TD revealed he would discuss the idea of Revenue collecting the new charge with Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe.
He added: “I think there is huge merit in going down the road of some type of a household charge.
“How that is going to be structured and collected is what we need to look at.
“I would be of the view that it should be possible to reduce the overall charge if you increase the number of households that are going to be paying it.”
