MY NEW YEAR’S VOWS

- By Jimmy Doherty

I don’t always make New Year’s resolutions. When I do, they tend to be the usual – like drinking less – and quickly go by the by.

But this year, I plan to see some of my old friends a bit more. The busy lives we all lead, especially now we have kids, mean two or three years can pass before we get together.

Sometimes you don’t even realise until you look at your children and remember that one was a newborn last time and now they are walking.

I decided to make more effort because we had a secondary school reunion recently. There were more than 30 of us and it was just like old times. In 2018, I’ll take more time to see those people.

Another thing I’d like to do is go horse riding. We have horses on the farm but with three daughters and a fourth on the way, time is limited.

In a dream world, I’d do a journey across the Midwest of America, with a tent and a fishing rod. I don’t think it will happen this year but it’s something to aim for!”
