Barry Mcelduff A SINN Fein MP has said sorry after being accused of disrespecting victims of the Kingsmill massacre in a “tasteless tweet”.

Barry Mcelduff posted a video on Friday – the 42nd anniversary of the atrocity in which 10 Protestant workmen were slaughtered by the IRA.

In it the West Tyrone representative is pictured with a loaf of Kingsmill bread on his head and asks: “I’m just wondering – where does Mccullagh’s keep the bread?”

It was posted at 12.05am. Yesterday he tweeted an apology, saying: “Have deleted video post. Had not realised or imagined for a second any possible link between product brand name and Kingsmill anniversary.

“Further, I apologise for any hurt or offence caused.

“Never my intention to offend anyone who has suffered grievously.”

But Alliance Party leader Naomi Long asked him: “I see you have deleted your video. Will you also explain what on earth you were thinking of posting this on the anniversary of the Kingsmills massacre?

“Have you any apology to make to those victims and survivors deeply hurt by your antics?”

TUV leader Jim Allister branded the video “tasteless beyond belief ”.

The PSNI said inquiries are ongoing after they received reports about the social media post.
