I’VE SCOT NO CHANCE

-

FORMER ENGLAND keeper Scott Carson reckons he’d be in the mix to go to the 2018 World Cup – if he was still playing in the Premier League.

The Derby star kept Manchester United’s strikers at bay until the last six minutes of their FA Cup clash when Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku struck to send Jose Mourinho’s stars into the fourth round. The 32-year-old – who won four England caps – made superb saves to keep out free-kicks from Paul Pogba and Juan Mata before his defiance was finally broken.

Despite his form, though, he knows an England recall will never happen while he’s in the Championship.

“I’ve been playing the best, the most consistent in my career,” he said. “If I was playing in games like this against United every week then I would probably be disappointed that I wouldn’t be getting a chance with England.

“At the end of the day if you’re not playing in the Premier League, then your chances are very minimal.” Carson (below) was a scapegoat in England’s infamous “Wally with the brolly” Euro 2008 qualifying defeat by Croatia at Wembley. He let a Niko Kranjcar shot slip through his fingers as Croatia won 3-2. It killed his England career, although he made two more appearances.
