U2 Adam: We had unforgetta­ble fear before massive US shows

U2 superstar Adam Clayton has revealed the band were terrified when they first played in front of massive crowds after breaking the US.

In a new BBC documentar­y, the Dubliner tells of the highs and lows of performing for millions of people over the past four decades.

And he recalls how he was driving when The Edge went through the windscreen of his car the day before they were due to play their first big UK gig in 1980.

Adam Clayton Tree Tour 2017 to get an insight into the scale of a modern tour. Clayton said U2’s introducti­on to American stadiums when they hit superstard­om in 1987 was daunting. He added: “I think it was the most terrifying transition you could imagine. It was very, very tough, particular­ly tough on Bono.”
