‘I just wanted to do strum-thing to remember tragic, talented brother’

- BY SYLVIA POWNALL

A TALENTED musician whose brother committed suicide is planning an all-day busking session in his memory.

Singer/songwriter Ray Dunne, who released several albums and performed at Glastonbury, took his own life in February 2016.

Now younger brother Niall wants to celebrate Ray’s life and raise funds for AWARE.

The event in their home town of Athy, Co Kildare, already has a line-up of 16 bands and he plans on enlisting support from some of his pals in the music business.

Niall, 35, told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “Ray was very talented and this is a celebration of his music and his life on the second anniversary of his death. “He wasn’t just our brother and dad’s son, he was a son of Athy and everyone in the town knew him and loved him.”

His family were left devastated when popular dad-of-one Ray ended his life on February 6, 2016 at the age of 34 after a short battle with depression.

Niall added: “I knew he was going through a bit of a rough patch but we didn’t see this coming.

“Something came over me and I knew he was dead. When you lose someone to suicide you’re so helpless, you will forever be asking, ‘What could I have done?’ but you’ll never find the answer.”

The Remembering Ray buskathon takes place in Athy’s Emily Square on Friday, February 9.
