ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger is not convinced the Premier League should follow the Football Association in introducing a ‘Rooney Rule’ to try to address inequality in recruitment. The FA confirmed last week that they will copy the NFL’S policy – which requires teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching and senior operation roles — when the time comes to find a replacement for England boss Gareth Southgate.

Asked if the top flight should follow that lead, Wenger said: “I am a bit reluctant. I am absolutely against any discrimination. Should we have to force it? That proposes some questions. It should be natural.

“But if it is not happening naturally for us, then maybe we do have to implement it.”
