Wrap up well as cold front coming in to bring snow

- BY DAVID COLEMAN

IRELAND will shiver in Baltic conditions of -3C tonight with a risk of snow.

Today will be mostly dry with sunny spells but the mercury is set to plunge overnight.

But Met Eireann warned it is due to get very cold with severe frost developing and icy stretches.

Tomorrow will see widespread frost and icy conditions which will clear to sunny skies.

Forecaster Liz Walsh of Met Eireann warned we could get some snowfall.

She said: “The country is at risk. It’s looking like a cold spell coming through and a continuation of the cold weather.

“There’s definitely a significant risk of wintry weather as we head into the working week.

“It’ll be dry mostly for Monday but there is another front moving in from the Atlantic.

“And that’s going to meet cold air and when air meets cold air what happens is we get snow.

“It does look like there’s an increasing risk of possibly fairly significant accumulations, but at this stage we can’t really say how much.

“But it does look like at the moment, even though it’s a bit far out, but people along the east coast need to be watching out on Tuesday morning for a bit of snow on the ground.”
