TYRONE DUBLIN Dubs out of this world in win over Tyrone

- BY KEVIN KELLY

ALLIANZ NFL DIVISION 1

LOUTH SCORERS:

Tyrone led by two points at the break after a very entertaining opening period in front of 9465 supporters.

It was the Ulster champions who made a lighting start with Cathal Mcshane sending the ball over the bar after only 10 seconds.

Kevin Mcmanamon opened Dublin’s account before Dean Rock narrowed the gap further with a well struck free.

Lee Brennan, who looked lively throughout, fired over a great score but a close in Rock free closed the gap at the end of the opening quarter.

Tyrone were playing with great intensity and a superb effort from play from Mcaliskey was followed by a Brennan free for a four point advantage.

In the 23rd minute though Dublin were right back in contention when a long range Brian Fenton free broke and Ciaran Kilkenny (right) fired to the net.

The home side though wasted no time in responding with a terrific Brennan point before a brief melee broke out that involved a number of players from both sides.

Kilkenny landed a brilliant point from out on the left wing but that score was quickly cancelled out with a quality strike from Peter Harte.

The visitors were then unlucky not to take the lead when a thunderbolt from Kilkenny came back off the crossbar.

Rock knocked over his third free of the half but it was Tyrone who had the final say through Mcaliskey for a 1-7 to 1-5 lead. Within five minutes of the restart though Dublin were on level terms after a Rock free was followed by an inspirational effort from play from centre half back James Mccarthy. Dublin looked rejuvenated and moments later they had their noses in front for the first time thanks to a point from midfielder Brian Fenton.

Dublin were dealt a blow when Niall Scully picked up a second yellow but despite that they tagged on points from Mcmanamon and Kilkenny.

Tyrone finally opened their second half account through Niall Sludden but it was Dublin who continued to dominate.

A mistake at the back from Tyrone was punished by a goal from Eoghan O’gara and it was another Dublin replacement, Colm Basquel, who landed three points as well.

Tyrone’s best player Brennan kicked another three points but it was only academic at that stage as Dublin emerged worthy winners.
