‘MORGAN’S GOT WORLD AT FEET’

- BY RICHARD EDWARDS

ADAM HOLLIOAKE says Eoin Morgan is the right man at the right time to lead England to 2019 World Cup glory.

Before the ODI defeat by Australia nine days ago, England had won 18 of their last 20 completed matches in the 50-over format – and then they bounced back to beat the Aussies last Sunday.

England are favourites for next year’s World Cup on home soil, after 2015 humiliation in Australia. Hollioake – still the only England ODI captain to win a tournament said: “This is the best England one-day side I’ve ever seen.

“And Eoin Morgan is the perfect captain.

“He’s got such a good air about him. He’s relaxed but you know he’s the captain, he has an aura – he’s not a guy who’s leading by fear. “Some captains are boisterous, but he’s not, he’s fair and I like the way he goes about things. “Yes, he has got very good players, but I’ve seen a lot of good players not pull together and play as a team. You need the whole culture. “He’s keeping that team together, and he’s keeping them humble.” England have not got past the quarter-final stage of a World Cup since 1992, but Hollioake added: “England are playing better cricket than any team in the world now. “It’s a bit like watching the West Indies side in the ‘70s and ‘80s – everyone knows how they’re going to play but no-one can do anything to stop them.”
