ARTETA’S BLOCKED

MANCHESTER CITY boss Pep Guardiola has stopped key coach Mikel Arteta joining up with Wales.

The former Arsenal star was among a number of coaches approached to join new manager Ryan Giggs’ support team.

Arteta was wanted on a part-time basis, joining in international weeks. It is thought the Spaniard was keen to broaden his coaching knowledge.

But Guardiola said no, preferring Arteta to concentrate on Manchester City duties in a hectic season when the club are going for a Quadruple in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Arteta’s influence has grown behind the scenes under Guardiola and he is seen as a future manager.
