OH YOU BEAUTY

-

STEVE CLARKE was counting his blessings after Youssouf Mulumbu’s second-half strike earned Kilmarnock a rare win over Celtic.

The 31-year-old (right) had been tipped to join Bordeaux in the transfer window only for the move to fall through.

Boss Clarke said: “It could have happened – but somebody was looking after us. Once a club came sniffing there was always the possibility that we could lose him.

“I said it was important not to lose key players and so credit to the club that we managed to do that and you’ve seen his qualities.”

It was the midfielder’s first goal for the club after being released by Norwich in May – and Killie’s first home victory against Celtic since 2010.

The defeat – Celtic’s second of the domestic season – came at the cost of more than three points.

First-half injuries to central-defenders Dedryck Boyata and Kristoffer Ajer served as further blows to the league leaders, who play the first leg of their Europa League tie against Zenit Saint Petersburg in less than two weeks. Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers said: “We were disappointing and there are very few games where I would say that.”
