Mel B: Time for Girl Power
Mel C on positivity at Spice Girls legacy
MEL C reckons the Spice Girls have never been more relevant as they prepare for a comeback.
The singer, 44, said their girl power message is needed now more than ever.
She said: “We feel really positive about the Spice Girls legacy right now, because all the fans are women now. Some are parents, running their own businesses.
“Young girls are rediscovering the Spice Girls and it just feels like a really positive time, we need the girl power message more now than ever.”
Mel C spoke to the Sunday Mirror exclusively ahead of last week’s reunion, saying she felt incredibly “positive”.
She hooked up with Emma Bunton and Mel B, both 42, Victoria Beckham, 43, and Geri Horner, 45, at Geri’s North London home on Friday.
Yesterday, in a separate interview with Radio 2’s Dermot O’leary, she said it was “just great to be back in Spiceworld”.
She said: “We just want to empower people, we want to empower girls. There are so many negative things going on in the world all the time and we feel like the Spice Girls was always a bit of fun.”
Simon Fuller, 57, will be in charge of the reunion plans, expected to net each member € 12million. Projects are said to include a greatest hits album and a TV talent show. Mel B, snapped on her way to her mum’s South London home after the meet-up, posted: “These amazing women have helped me become who I am, so to all the girls out there remember ‘friendship never ever ends’ !!!! Boom.”
But a source said it has taken a “leap of faith” for Mel C to agree to the reunion. She previously claimed she was bullied by a band member.
The source said: “It was a big decision. But she is determined to move on.”
Friday’s meeting was the first time the five singers have been in a room together since the opening of their flop musical Viva Forever! in December 2012.
The last time they performed as a fivepiece was at the London 2012 Olympics.
