Campbell praises ‘polarising’ Adams

-

ALASTAIR Campbell paid tribute to the part played by Gerry Adams in the peace process in the North.

As then prime minister Tony Blair’s spokesman from 1994 to 2003, the spin doctor worked closely with Adams.

He said: “Gerry Adams is a polarising figure but nobody can take away the role he played in steering the IRA from violence and persuading the republican movement to embrace democracy.

“It took real courage for Gerry and Martin Mcguinness to change course. They were very tough negotiators.”
