Sweeney too good

- BY JOHN FALLON

THE accuracy of Conor Sweeney was key as Tipperary got their Division Two campaign back on track in Thurles.

Sweeney (below) landed 0-9 to chalk up their second win.

Tipperary never trailed in the opening half and produced a superb second quarter to open up a 1-8 to 0-5 interval lead.

They had a productive second quarter with Sweeney and Michael Quinlivan kicking excellent points.

Another free from Sweeney and one from play by Liam Casey pushed them 0-8 to 0-4 ahead on the half hour.

James Mcentee gave Meath hope with a point but Tipperary landed a big blow just before the break when Josh Keane fed Sweeney down the left and his high ball was fielded by Quinlivan and he turned to blast the ball to the roof of the net to leave them six ahead at the break.

Meath came out with Mckeever pointing a free and then James Mcentee and Reill quickly adding points to cut the gap to 1-8 to 0-8 after 38 minutes.

But Tipperary hit back and Bill Maher soloed in from the left before drilling the ball low to the net and they never looked back.
