MULLOCK

-

– not bad for a striker who isn’t renowned as being prolific – while Mane will be disappointed that he clipped a great chance against the outside of Adrian’s post before sealing the rout with his 13th of the season. It’s the kind of firepower that will cause Mourinho to fret as he plans for Liverpool’s tantalising trip to Old Trafford next month. West Ham travelled home happy to get away with conceding just the four. It was always going to be the likely scenario, given that Moyes had failed to win any of his previous 14 visits to Anfield as manager of Everton and United. Nothing was more certain either, than Patrice Evra getting grief. Sure enough, with his first touch of the ball in a West Ham shirt, the Frenchman discovered that some on the Kop have long memories. There were a few who still couldn’t forgive him for once wearing Manchester United’s No.3 shirt with such distinction that he has five Premier League titles to sit alongside the Champions League medal on his mantlepiece. But tribalism soon gave way to stupidity when others made it clear that they still blame him for being racially abused by Luis Suarez seven years ago.

It was to Klopp’s great credit that he sought out Evra at the final whistle to give him a hug.

It wasn’t that West Ham were hopeless – they were simply helpless.

Marko Arnautovic thought he had given the Hammers an early lead with a touch of genuine class that saw him loft a glorious 20-yard shot towards the top corner, only for Loris Karius to tip the ball against the underside of the crossbar.

But, then just before the half hour, Salah’s corner into the West Ham six-yard box and James Milner’s goalline block on Adrian enabled Can to leap above Evra to head in.

It was the 100th goal Liverpool have scored this season.

The only surprise was that it took Salah until six minutes into the second half to get his goal, making an awkward finish look simple after Alex Oxlade-chamberlain had scrambled the ball through to him.

Firmino made it 3-0 on 57 minutes after Can had capitalised on Adrian’s poor clearance to send the Brazilian clear.

Although Antonio’s emphatic finish briefly warmed up the travelling 3,000 West Ham fans freezing in the Anfield Road End, it was Mane who had final say in the 77th minute.

A performance that sent a shiver all the way down the East Lancs Road.
