GLENN MURRAY

Andre Ayew. They almost equalised on the stroke of half-time when Jordan Ayew hit the post and Martin Olsson fluffed the rebound.

But when Carvahal gambled even more after the break, it backfired.

He took off defender Mike van der Hoorn, with winger Luciano Narsingh coming on in his place. And he called on Tammy Abraham too as he went on all-out attack.

“We took some risks because we wanted to win,” Carvahal explained. “When you do that you can win a lot of money or you can lose a lot.

“After this I need to be a critic to myself. Maybe I should have waited longer to take that risk, but it’s the life of a manager.

“If you take the risk and score and go on to win the game, the manager is a genius.

“We did a big bet today – but we lost that bet.” It was Van der Hoorn who gifted Albion the all-important opener, bringing down Murray for a penalty which he smashed home.

A period of Swansea pressure after the break gave them hope they could fight back – with Mathew Ryan saving superbly from Ki Sung-yueng.

But Murray steered home a second after 69 minutes, after wonderful work from Izquierdo.

Knockaert’s cleverlydinked left-foot finish made it 3-0 and although Lewis Dunk diverted a Abraham shot into his own net for 3-1 the result was never in doubt.

In fact, another bit of Izquierdo dribbling magic ended with Dunk drilling low for Locadia to sweep home number four.
