QAPlease could you place a value on my train? It is a Tri-ang 7005 diesel switcher. Jackie Hendy, via email Tri-ang was an affordable way to start out with model railways. It was founded by three brothers with the surname Lines, hence the “tri”. They made everything from toys, prams and railways to jigsaw puzzles and pedal cars. Should you choo-choose to sell, your set would fetch between €30 to €80 depending on condition of the train and packaging. I have a brown paper laundry label, originally tied with string, with the name Sir Winston Churchill and No10 handwritten on it. I was eight when I picked it up in Downing Street during a holiday in 1953/4. I saw Sir Winston leave No10 then noticed the label on the ground after the laundry collector had removed baskets from the pavement. Does it have any value? Peter Walker, via email I love your story! Churchill is a popular subject for collectors and your novel item could well be worth €200 to €300. Rare letters and photos of Britain’s wartime leader fetch hundreds, even thousands. Also popular are busts, Toby jugs, plaques, etc. A 1940 white Churchill character jug by Royal Doulton is one to look for. It was made with black handles in 1940, but the great man disliked it, so Doulton smashed unsold ones. One sold for €5,000 a few years ago.
