Murty: I’m in a scrap for top job

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

GRAEME MURTY says winning the Scottish Cup WON’T guaranteee him the job as permanent Rangers gaffer.

The Ibrox boss has the gig until the end of the season and so far has impressed in the hot-seat.

His side can seal a Scottish Cup semi-final spot by beating Falkirk, ahead of next weekend’s Old Firm showdown.

But Murty is adamant he’s had NO assurances from Gers supremo Dave King with regards to getting the job long-term.

And he admits that even lifting a trophy at Hampden on May 19 might not be enough to convinced the Ibrox board.

Murty said: “I’ve been given no indication to what might happen at the end of the season.

“Is it strange that I could win the Scottish Cup and not get the job? No, because that’s the way it is.

“The measure of what we’re trying to do here will be where we end up.

“And that’s not just the progress of the squad, it’s the whole football club.

“Are we getting closer to where we want to be? Are we moving the brand further on?

“I think we are but we’re not there yet. For the all the positive feeling around the place at the moment, which is great, we still want to get better.

“This is still not where we want to be. We have a big game on Sunday, the Old Firm game, the league split and hopefully the semifinals and final of the Scottish Cup to be contested.

“We want to accelerate and move forward from here.”
