Records fall to Guardiola

- BY RICHARD EDWARDS

MANCHESTER CITY are set to smash almost every Premier League record as they close in on the title.

Pep Guardiola’s men have destroyed the competition this season – winning 24 of 28 games before this afternoon’s clash with Chelsea.

They have been unstoppable.

And this irresistible force may leave an indelible mark in the history books.

For starters, City could win the Premier League title faster than any other club in history.

That record is held by the Manchester United team of 2000/01, who were crowned, with five games to spare. But City have a date with destiny set for April 7 – the earliest a team has ever been crowned Premier League champions. That, though, is merely the cherry on top of Pep’s cake.

If they keep smashing in the goals, City will not only top the Premier League’s all-time net-bulging charts, they will also set a points target that is near impossible for any other side to match.

Should City maintain their form, they’ll finish the season with 101 points, cruising past Chelsea’s 2004/05 tally by six points.

And if City continue to bang in the goals, they will finish their campaign with 111 strikes – eight more than Chelsea in 2009/10.
