Lidl, Fortunestown Lane, Jobstown. Gda Fiona Morgan gave evidence of his arrest, charge and caution. She said he made no reply after caution and the judge directed he sign on at Tallaght Garda Station. Gerard Buggle, 38, of Mac Uiliam, Tallaght, was charged with theft of LED lights. Gda Mark Conaughton said he arrested Buggle on Fortunestown Lane. He made no reply to the charge and was told to sign on twice daily.

Also before the court was Lithuanian national Pouilas Gueizecius, 21, of St Mochta’s Drive, Coolmine Lodge, Clonsilla, Dublin, who was charged with handling stolen property and burglary at the Lidl store on the same date.

In the dock over an incident at a Centra store in Kiltalown Way, Tallaght, was Mohamed Smew, 26, of Milner’s Square, Shanowen, Santry, North Dublin, who was charged with possession of a sledge hammer during a raid.

He is also charged with burglary at the supermarket.

In a bail application Gda Det David Jennings said he arrived at the shop.

There he said he found the front shutter of the shop had been cut open and the front door was smashed.

When he gained access to the property he found Smew inside the building waving a sledge hammer around. He found the tills and the cigarette machine had been damaged.

When challenged, Det Gda Jennings said Smew refused to drop the hammer and had to be disarmed by the detective.

The court heard, through his barrister, that Smew’s family were from Libya but he had lived in Ireland all his life.

He was refused bail and was remanded in custody to appear in court on Thursday. Also in court were

Tallaght men John Doyle, 38, of Russell Walk, Russell Square and David Bernie, 37, of Suncroft Park. They are charged with committing criminal damage during a burglary at the Centra store. Gda John Tuttle said he arrested Doyle at the scene and he made no reply to the charge. Doyle

appeared in court wearing a black top, blue jeans and green jacket. The garda said he entered the store and after arresting Smew, he alleged Doyle ran to a back cash office area. He was refused bail.

Likewise, Bernie was found in the back office, he was also refused bail.

The men accused of the raid on the Lidl store were granted bail to appear at the court in the coming weeks while the men allegedly involved in the raid at the Centra were remanded in custody.
