The food is wonderful at Ulusaba – but you need to watch out for the cheeky resident Vervet monkeys on the lookout for an easy meal.

They patrol the sundecks of Safari Lodge always eyeing a nibble.

From fresh breakfast pancakes cooked on a gas stove in the bush to meaty banquets under the stars, every meal here is tasty – and an event. I tucked into poached eggs on a boerewors (sausage) patty most mornings while ducking divebombing insects between mouthfuls. Dinner is served at big communal tables, which can get nice and rowdy after an exciting day in the bush.
