Rescue drama as tide traps 7 teenagers

-

SEVEN teenagers had to be rescued after they were trapped by an incoming tide yesterday afternoon.

The group had been walking on Sandymount Strand in South Dublin when the water came in leaving them stranded on a sandbank.

The alarm was raised shortly after 2pm and the RNLI Lifeboat and Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 were tasked to the scene.

Dun Laoghaire volunteer Mark Mcgibney said: “We would like to commend the group for raising the alarm when they got into trouble, that was the right thing to do.”
