Goat walk is good for kids says teacher
TAKING the goat for a walk each day has helped a primary school boost its pupil attendance.
Children are responsible for exercising, feeding and cleaning Frodo and Bilbo Baggins the pygmy goats.
They put leads on the pair and do a 1km walk alongside labradoodle Whoopi as part of a “k a day” get-fit initiative.
Paul Baker, executive principal of Gulval Primary School in Penzance, Cornwall, said: “Schools are seeing a rise in children with mental health issues and our goats are one way we are addressing that.
“At times when a child is in crisis we have found that looking after the goats is a great distraction.”
The project is paid for by the Big Lottery Fund’s Headstart programme.
