BAIN OF HIS LIFE

Artificial surface may see Gordon replaced by Scott again

- BY PETER RAMSEY

CELTIC ‘keeper Craig Gordon might NOT keep his place ahead of Scott Bain for today’s clash with Hamilton Accies.

The Hoops number one regained his spot after injury on Wednesday night, with Bain ineligible against his parent club Dundee.

Now fully fit, Gordon is expected to establish himself again as Brendan Rodgers’ first pick but the Celtic gaffer admits he could spare him Accies’ artificial pitch today.

If Bain comes back in, he’ll have the chance to stake his claim for next Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final clash against Rangers at Hampden.

Rodgers said: “It’s something we’ll look at for the weekend, in terms of Craig coming back from injury on that pitch. Does he play on the astro?

“We have a number of players we have to think about in that regard, like Jozo Simunovic, Leigh Griffiths and Kieran Tierney too.

“It’s not the ideal game to have before going into a semi-final next week. So we’ll have to weigh it up for Hamilton.

“But it was great to see Craig back in midweek and he’s been outstanding for me during my time here. He’s a super professional who is still very hungry.”

Meanwhile, winger James Forrest (inset) has admitted that the contract he signed in August 2016 was the most important of his career. As he prepared for Celtic’s game against Hamilton, the in-form wide man said: “This has definitely been my best season at Celtic because I’ve hit double figures for goals. “But I don’t think about that too much, with so many big games coming up. I just want to do my best for the team and I’ll see where that takes me.

“I’d like to stay here for the rest of my career because I’ve only ever played for Celtic.

“When the manager first came in, that was the closest I’ve been to leaving. I was down to the last six months of my contract. But I always made it clear that I wanted to stay. “Thankfully the manager told me to have a good pre-season and we’d get it done. When we got it signed I was delighted. Of all the contracts I’ve signed at Celtic, that’s the one I was most buzzing off.

“I knew I wanted to stay. When I signed, I didn’t look back. I’ve managed to kick on and do well.”
