Pep’s got new deal till 2020

-

produced a dramatic fightback in the 176th Manchester Derby as Pogba scored twice and Chris Smalling then grabbed the winner.

The result delighted United boss Jose Mourinho who said he congratulated Guardiola at the final whistle on winning the title.

Even if City win at Tottenham on Saturday, they need United to lose at Old Trafford the following day against bottom side West Brom to be crowned champions next weekend.

Mourinho said: “Our challenge is to finish second but I want to congratulate City for the title because they are going to win, and deservedly. They gave no chance to the others because they have not stopped winning.

“My objective here was to get points, not to spoil any celebrations. The point is can we improve enough to catch them next season?”

Before the game Guardiola claimed he was offered the chance to sign Pogba in January.

Mourinho added: “If the accusation from his agent is that he wants to go to other clubs, his price has gone up.”

Guardiola now needs to find a way to rally his side ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool on Tuesday.

He said: “We are sad for our fans but if we win two more games we will be champions.”

The success of City this season has seen bosses at the Etihad reward Guardiola, 47, with a new contract.

He agreed a one-year extension when he took his squad to meet owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak in Abu Dhabi last month.

Guardiola, who has just over 12 months left on the deal he signed in the summer of 2016, will now be staying with City until at least 2020.
