Murder probe as dad of one found beaten to death
GARDAI have launched a murder investigation after a father was beaten to death.
Ioan Artene Bob, 49, was found in a critical condition by a passer-by in Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght, South Dublin, at 8.30am on Friday.
He died in hospital later that day.
He was last seen at 8.30pm on Thursday in Moore Street in the city centre before travelling to Tallaght.
Romanian national Ioan has an eight-yearold son in his home country.
Garda Supt Ian Lackey said: “Ioan died of serious bodily injuries that we believe were the result of a serious assault.
“We have 40-plus detectives working on this.
“We don’t know where Ioan was living in the recent past, we don’t believe he was homeless. We appeal to anybody who may have seen him in the Moore Street area or may have travelled out to Tallaght on public transport.
“We also appeal to anybody who may have used the park, that saw anything however insignificant to come forward and let us know.”
Ioan was understood to have worked on a building site in Carrickmines, Co Dublin, in the last few days.
The murder hunt is under way following a postmortem exam by assistant state pathologist Dr Margret Bolster.
Officers had not established a motive for the killing and could not confirm whether a weapon was used in the attack. Supt Lackey also passed on his condolences to the man’s family, friends and colleagues.
Anyone with information is urged to call Tallaght Garda station on 01 666 6000 or the Garda confidential line.
