Royal Airbnb to a wedding fortune
RICH Windsor householders are aiming to make money out of the Big Day – by renting out their homes on Airbnb for a fortune.
One five-bed house is up for grabs for €3,250 a NIGHT from May 18-20. The online advert says it is “ideal for the Royal Wedding”.
Another two-bedroom property is listed as a “Royal Wedding Central Windsor Townhouse” for €1,200 a night.
The owner boasts it is a fiveminute walk from the castle where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will tie the knot on May 19.
The ads follow revelations in January that residents in the Berkshire town were offered up to €17,000 per night by media companies to occupy their homes.
But property litigation solicitor Aileigh Brough pointed out there may be a sting in the tale for the get richer quick homeowners.
“Many people fail to consider money made by short-term letting is income they need to pay tax on,” she said. “And HMRC has a system called Connect which assesses income information from websites such as Airbnb.”
