40,000 tears at Winnie funeral

SALUTE Naomi and Winnie funeral card A SEA of green, black and gold filled a stadium in Soweto yesterday – a tearful 40,000 wore the colours of the ANC to bid farewell to Winnie Mandela.

The activist, politician and ex-wife of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela died two weeks ago, aged 81. Her coffin was draped in the South African flag. President Cyril Ramaphosa said: “Loudly and without apology, she spoke truth to power.”

Model Naomi Campbell, 47, also paid tribute, saying: “She was the epitome of courage and strength.”
