ESCAPEE LIFTS THE
Aged just 10, Danbi was among thousands summoned to witness soldiers dispassionately end the lives of would-be deserters from North Korea.
Years later, Danbi would herself feel the wrath of the cruel regime – suffering “inhuman” torture for 25 days.
And today, she spells out the grim and gruesome reality of life in the secretive nation now ruled by power-mad Kim Jong-un.
Recalling the executions, Danbi, 26, says: “Four men and two women were tied to wooden poles and pleading for mercy.
“Executioners wrapped their bodies in plastic sheets and put stones into their mouths.
“I heard the clapping sound of shots, saw their agonised struggle then stillness amongst the blood. I was so deeply traumatised by what I saw I couldn’t eat for days.”
Brave Danbi is speaking out after fleeing North Korea in her late teens.
Her brother, a police officer, has not been seen for years, after being thrown into political prison.
