Liverpool legend lands the Ibrox job with old pal Mcallister

- BY JOHN RICHARDSON

STEVEN GERRARD has said yes to Rangers.

Ibrox bosses have made it clear that Gerrard is their No.1 choice, and the man they believe can bring back the glory years. The Kop legend will leave his role as Liverpool Under-18s boss and head north, with former Scotland star Gary Mcallister (right) as his No.2. Gerrard beat Dutchman Frank

de Boer (above) – the former Rangers star and ex-crystal Palace manager – to the job.

Former Liverpool and England captain Gerrard is excited about the prospect of going headto-head with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, his former Reds gaffer.

The 37-year-old has knocked back other approaches to move into management, including the chance to boss MK Dons.

But he has been unable to resist the lure of Rangers, and his old Liverpool team-mate Mcallister has agreed to join him in Glasgow.

It means former midfield general Gerrard will call time on his Kop coaching career – but he goes with the blessing of Anfield manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss said: “If I was the owner of a club, I’d think about him.

“It’s his decision and we support him.”
