Spring break as mercury drops to -1C

- BY JOHN PATRICK KIERANS

IRELAND is set to be battered by a mix of rain, hail and thunder as temperatures plummet.

The mercury dropped to -1C last night and is expected to fall just as low tonight.

Today will start out bright and sunny but showers are expected to move in this afternoon.

Shallow fog and frost will also be seen, however, it will be mostly confined to rural areas.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “Cold and mostly dry on Sunday night with light winds and lows of -1C to 2C.”

Tomorrow will be a bright and sunny day but will bring with it a chilling breeze.
